The first minutes matter

1. Take it out of the liquid and turn it off if it is still on.
2. Don’t plug it in: charging a wet iPhone can short-circuit the board. iPhone XS, XR and later models even show an alert when liquid is detected in the port.
3. No heat: no hair dryer, radiator or oven.
4. Nothing in the port: no cotton swab or paper towel.
5. No rice: Apple advises against putting your iPhone in a bag of rice, because small particles can damage it.
6. Bring it in as soon as you can: corrosion keeps working on the board even when the iPhone looks dry.

Is your iPhone water resistant?

Apple gives each model a resistance rating, but says this resistance is not permanent and decreases with normal wear, and that liquid damage isn’t covered by its warranty. An iPhone that has already been repaired or has a cracked screen is no longer sealed.

Salt water, chlorine and sugary drinks are harsher than fresh water: mention it at the counter.
