Try this before you come in
- Power: try another cable, another USB-C or MagSafe adapter and another outlet. Let it charge for at least 15 minutes.
- The button: hold the power button (or Touch ID) for about ten seconds, release, then press it again.
- The screen: if you hear a sound, see the keyboard backlight or the Caps Lock light comes on, the Mac may be starting without a picture. Connect an external display to check.
- Intel Mac: an SMC reset can help; the steps depend on the model and Apple details them on its support site.
Why a MacBook won’t turn on
- Battery deeply drained, worn or swollen: see MacBook battery replacement;
- USB-C or MagSafe port damaged, or a failed charging circuit;
- Liquid spilled on the keyboard, sometimes days earlier: corrosion spreads under the keyboard;
- Logic board: a short on a power rail, a charging chip or a burnt component;
- Display or cable: the Mac works but shows nothing;
- Software: on Apple silicon Macs, damaged firmware can prevent startup; Apple provides a revive procedure from another Mac.
Your files: why the logic board matters
On recent MacBooks, storage is soldered to the logic board and encrypted by the chip: you can’t simply pull the drive to get your files. Without a backup, the only way to recover your data is often to bring the logic board back to life. That is exactly what our micro-soldering does, on site. See also data recovery.

The diagnostic is free, down to the logic board. The repair price depends on the cause found and is confirmed before we start.

MacBook won’t turn on: frequently asked questions
My MacBook won’t turn on, what should I do first?
Try another adapter and outlet, let it charge for at least 15 minutes, then hold the power button for about ten seconds before trying again. Otherwise, bring it in for a free diagnostic.
Can files be recovered from a MacBook that won’t turn on?
Often yes. On recent MacBooks, storage is soldered and encrypted: recovery goes through repairing the logic board, which we do on site.
I spilled coffee on my MacBook: what should I do?
Turn it off, unplug it, don’t turn it back on and bring it in quickly. Corrosion keeps working even when the Mac seems dry.
How much does the repair cost?
The diagnostic is free. The price depends on the cause found and is confirmed before the repair.
Is the repair covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every repair is covered by our lifetime warranty.
