The iPhone 11 series: what to know before a repair

Apple launched the series in 2019 with three models that aren’t repaired in quite the same way. The base model relies on a Liquid Retina (LCD) display, an aluminum band and two rear cameras. The Pro and Pro Max move to OLED with a Super Retina XDR display, a stainless steel band, a matte glass back and three cameras.

All three unlock with Face ID and charge through a Lightning port. Good news: the series is still supported by iOS 27, just as it was by iOS 26. These are among the oldest iPhones still receiving updates: a repair remains a sound investment.

iPhone 11 Pro repair

The same finish as the Pro Max in a more compact size: 5.8-inch OLED display, three cameras, stainless steel and matte glass. It’s the smallest of the three, but its OLED screen needs just as much care during installation, especially around the Face ID sensors.

Battery that no longer lasts the day

Battery replacement from $29, plus tax, often in 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the model and parts in stock. The best indicator is the Maximum Capacity shown in Settings › Battery. Below the 80% mark, or if the iPhone dies without warning in the middle of winter, a new battery usually fixes the problem. According to Apple, a non-genuine battery, or a genuine one not verified and linked to the iPhone through Apple’s process, may be listed as “Unknown Part”. Lightning port that charges poorly

Does the cable have to be held at an angle for the phone to charge? We first inspect the port under the microscope: pocket dust built up at the bottom is enough to block the contact, and a cleaning sometimes solves everything. Cracked back glass

Camera, speaker or microphone

Wet iPhone 11 or one that won’t start

The iPhone 11 is water resistant, but Apple points out that this protection wears down over time. After an unplanned swim, turn it off, definitely don’t plug it in, and bring it in quickly. Parts and Service History: what the iPhone 11 checks

Since iOS 15.2, Settings › General › About can show a Parts and Service History. According to Apple, the iPhone 11 tracks the battery and the screen in particular: a non-genuine part may show up there as “Unknown Part”, and so may a genuine part that hasn’t been verified and linked to the iPhone through Apple’s process after the repair.
